The research team within the Center for Research and Outreach has a multi-dimensional approach that includes conducting empirical studies, program evaluations, analysis of secondary data, and the use of empirical research to identify and address key issues impacting children, youth, and families. Through this process, we review academic literature, translate research into practice, develop materials to help non-academics be critical consumers of scientific research, and promote the use of evidenced-based information in decision making.

Spousal Aggression by US Army Female Soldiers Toward Employed and Unemployed Civilian Husbands

Rates of intimate partner violence were examined in female Active Duty Soldiers with employed and unemployed civilian husbands. Results indicate that Soldiers with unemployed husbands are more likely to both perpetrate and experience severe intimate partner violence.

Harsh Parenting in Relation to Child Emotion Regulation and Aggression

325 Chinese kindergartners participated in a study examining the effect of harsh parenting on child behavior. Mothers’ harsh parenting affected child emotion regulation more strongly than did fathers. However, harsh parenting emanating from fathers had a stronger effect on child aggression.

Military Community Integration and Its Effect on Well-Being and Retention
