What we do

The REACH Center utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach integrating both Research and Outreach to support those who work with and on behalf of children, youth, and families. Through our three-fold approach, we provide empirical research that identifies and addresses key issues impacting children, youth, and families and the programs that serve them, and offer outreach and professional development through online resources.

Who we are

Lynne Borden, PhD

Lynne Borden is the Associate Dean for Organizational Innovation and Research for University of Minnesota Extension. As principal investigator, she provides leadership across all aspects of the REACH Center.

Dr. Borden’s work in research, teaching, and outreach explores the effects of multiple contexts (i.e., structured out-of-school time programs, schools, families, and communities) on the positive development of young people while focusing on creating environments that promote this positive development.

Dr. Borden received her BA in elementary education from the University of Northern Colorado, completed her graduate work at the University of Colorado with a master’s in counseling and guidance, and earned a PhD in human resources and family studies from the University of Illinois.
