More women of the National Guard and Reserves have deployed to combat zones overseas than ever before. Upon reintegration, these soldiers often face a number of stressors related to their combat zone experiences and readjustment to civilian life.
Female National Guard members who had children and had been deployed overseas completed interviews about their experience during reintegration. Mothers reported concerns for their children’s well-being prior to deployment.
Background: The mental health of children is a primary public health concern; adolescents of military personnel may be at increased risk of experiencing poorer well-being overall and depressive symptoms specifically.
