The purpose of this qualitative study was to identify perspectives of female spouses/intimate partners regarding posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in returning Iraq and Afghanistan combat Veterans.
Spouses or intimate partners may be an important resource in early identification of concerns related to trauma or posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among Service members. Partners of Service members completed questionnaires regarding knowledge of PTSD and treatment.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association of spousal deployment during the antenatal period on maternal and neonatal outcomes and to estimate whether group prenatal care may be beneficial in reducing adverse outcomes when spouses are deployed.

Eighty-six spouses of military Service members who had been deployed participated in this study that explored the connections between mental health, social support, and physical health. Findings revealed that anxiety symptoms were related to lower social support and poorer physical health.
This study empirically developed a theoretical model of army wives’ resilience amid deployment. A sample of 18 women, representing army bases in Southern and Western parts of the United States, were interviewed about their experience of spousal wartime deployment.
