The Army National Guard Soldier in Post-9/11 Operations: Perceptions of Being Prepared for Mobilization, Deployment, and Combat

Type
Summary

This study examines the possible effects of recent mobilization and deployment of Army reservists on the readiness and retention of Army reserve component personnel. Survey responses obtained from Army reservists are summarily described in four areas: (1) teamwork and cooperation among soldiers, (2) caring and competent leaders, (3) familiarity with and confidence in the use of equipment and weaponry, and (4) family and civilian employer conflicts with reserve military service. Differences in perceptions in these areas, in addition to their relations to perceived readiness and career intentions, are compared between deployed and non-deployed reservists.
