The Impact of Combat Deployment on Military Families

Type
Summary

Military families face several unique stressors. Yet despite these military-specific stressors, there is little evidence to suggest military families differ from civilian families in terms of functioning and well-being outcomes. This chapter reviews empirical literature on military family functioning and discusses challenges confronting military families. We review these stressors in terms of distinct classes (i.e., acute, chronic, and daily), with a focus on gaps in the literature and areas for future research.
