Considerations in the Treatment of Veterans with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Type
Summary

Delivering high-quality treatment to veterans with PTSD and other trauma-related conditions requires awareness not only of evidence-based treatment practices but also of military-related stressors and the underlying military cultural context in which they occur. In this chapter, we aim to provide the clinician with a greater understanding of military-related stressors such as those related to combat service and military sexual trauma. We also discuss the role and importance of the cultural context of military service. Recommendations for practice and resources for learning more about each topic are provided.
