Military Family Programs: Caring for Our Own

Type
Summary

Describes programs created by the US Department of Defense to break the cycle of violence that occurs in some military families and to offer the opportunity to all military families to enhance their functioning and enrich their lives. These projects include the Military Family Resource Center, an abuse prevention program, and plans for a family advocacy program. It is contended that the military has been in a unique position to create these new family support systems because its authority over and responsibility to its members is so much more clear than that of its civilian counterparts.
